Würzburg - Sehenswürdigkeiten in Deutschland
UNESCO - Weltkulturerbe

Sights in Germany - The former residence of the Prince-bishops of Würzburg (left on the photo)
is one on the landmarks in town. It was built by the architect Johann Balthasar Neumann, the
frescos are by Giovanni Battista Tiepolo. The Käppele, a pilgrimage chapel, was also built by
Neumann.Neumann's son Franz Ignaz built the Alte Kranen a crane on the banks of the Main river.
Located above
the city is Festung Marienberg, a fortress that became the prince-bishop's residence in 1253. The
construction of the Romanesque cathedral started in 1040 and was completed in 1075.
In 1500 the side naves were reconstructed in Late Gothic style. There are many other churches,
palaces and numerous public buildings of interest in Würzburg.
